Theme & Setting
A Wild-West Outlaw World On The Reels
Wanted posters, dusty desert light and a bounty-hunter chase — Dead or Alive builds its whole adventure around the frontier.
The reels are dressed in classic wild west iconography: six-shooters, sheriff's badges and outlaw portraits stare back at you between spins, with a bounty-hunter always circling somewhere in the background art. It's one of the older titles in this guide, but the frontier styling still holds up as a genuine adventure setting rather than a token skin over generic symbols.
I rate it as the grittiest pick among the adventure-themed pokies in this smaller set — the outlaw theme carries a sense of chase and consequence that a lot of newer titles don't bother with.
Pace & Payout
How Dead or Alive Plays: High Volatility, Above-Median RTP
Dead or Alive sits in the high volatility bracket, which the Pokies Starter Guide explains in full for every title on this site — expect longer stretches between wins and bigger swings in either direction when a round does land, rather than a steady trickle of small returns.
Its 96.82% RTP sits above the 96.035% median across the pokies on this site, which makes it one of the stronger return figures on the site for a title built around this kind of high-swing pace. That combination — sharper volatility with a solid RTP behind it — is worth knowing before you set a session length.

A Calmer Neighbour, And One With A Bonus Buy
If that wild-swing pace isn't what you're after right now, Great Rhino is a medium-volatility, safari-themed neighbour in the same adventure set — a steadier session without leaving the outdoor, exploration mood behind.
For something with more moving parts on the same reels, Bonus Bunnies carries a bonus buy option alongside its bonus rounds. That's a straight purchase into the feature, so it's worth checking the bonus terms and wagering conditions on this guide before spending extra budget on it that way.
